The goal of the Thermal Subsystem is to ensure satellite safety by testing that all temperatures of the satellite are within operable ranges.
We simplify and model the satellite using Hypermesh, and then simulate the satellite in orbit using Thermal Desktop. These simulations help us implement passive and active thermal controls to ensure component safety, and make documentation on thermal analyses.
Undergraduate researchers learn about methods of heat transfer such as conduction, radiation, and convection. They also gain experience with ANSYS thermal suite, AutoCAD, HyperMesh, Thermal Desktop, and understand how passive and active thermal control is used to ensure component safety on the satellites being designed.
