EXACT is funded through the University Nanosatellite Program (UNP), an Air Force STEM initiative. As shown in the below image, this program consists of a series of phases. In Phase A, many universities are developing satellite hardware and software and undergoing periodic reviews of those elements. At Flight Selection Review (FSR), schools selected by the reviewers are invited to continue developing and building their satellite during Phase B. Phase C consists of preparing for satellite launch, and Phase D is communication with the satellite while it is in orbit.
